Two Emilijas and Nijolė from the Vilučiai family: art exhibition of grandmother, mother and daughter. Vilučiai is one of the dynasties of Lithuanian artists who left their mark in theater, literature, television, cinema, but mainly in the field of art. The most famous artist of this family is Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis, and this time three generations of female artists of the Vilučiai family meet: Emilija Liobytė-Vilutienė, her daughter-in-law Nijolė Ingelevičiūtė-Vilutienė and Emilia Liobytė’s granddaughter, daughter of Nijolė and Mikalojus Vilučiai, Emilija Vilutytė-Balas.

A talented sculptor, illustrator of children’s books, Emilija Liobytė-Vilutienė (1916-1955), who lived a short but bright life, left a visible mark on the art life of post-war Vilnius, her artistic nature never ceased to fascinate her contemporaries, and the current viewers of her works are delighted with her surprising ability to catch the musical score. expressed both in sculptures and drawings, which make up the majority of the collection presented at the exhibition.

Graphic artist Nijolė Ingelevičiūtė-Vilutienė (b. 1949) is an excellent etcher, recently she appears more and more often as a painter. She is romantically close to both Emilias – her mother-in-law, whom she knows only vaguely, through the memories of her relatives, photographs and works of art in the family archive, and her daughter, who was baptized with the name of Emilia in her mother-in-law’s honor. Nijolė communicates perfectly with both the older and the young Emilias, because she is close to the language of trees, which her mother-in-law admired so much, and the body language of a woman, which her daughter pays so much attention to.

After Emilija Vilutytė-Balas (b. 1977) graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, she looked for a long time, which way to go. During her studies, she distinguished herself by her extraordinary abilities as a poster artist, but this field, like the press illustration close to the poster, did not satisfy her. She combined the talent of the poster artist and the romantic drive and evocatively conveys the mystical mood in the compositions of figurative painting with bright colors and active forms, the main character of which is usually her own alter ego – a woman who takes on a new form every time, always a city girl, always torn by existential problems that she has no hope of overcoming, like most modern people. Who knows, maybe reflections of the grandmother’s life drama echo in those works?
