In 1677, under the leadership of Šiauliai dean Liauksminas, a wooden church was built in Meškuičiai. The dilapidated church was rebuilt in 1792. In the 19th century (until 1863), it housed a parish school. In 1844, the parish was established. In 1857, the church was considerably repaired and decorated. In 1893, residents requested the permission of Vilnius governor general to build a brick church. The authorities allowed to construct only a wooden church. The parishioners did not want such church. When in 1896-1899 no permission was needed for reconstruction of churches, during 1897, the present brick church was built in Meškuičiai (under the leadership of dean Kazimieras Gaudesius). It was consecrated by bishop Pranciškus Karalevičius. After World War II, pilgrims’ processions would go from Meškuičiai to the Hill of Crosses (6 km).
