As early as in 1932, limestone for lime production and sugar industry was begun to be dug in Menčiai. Now, part of the excavated quarry is flooded, artificial lakes lie swashing remaining limestone outcrops. Impressive are not only the views opening before visitors‘ eyes but also the machinery that was used for mining. There is a gigantic excavator with 70m length of boom, weighting 688 tons, cabin height is 9,6 meters and its bucket volume 10m3.
