PIOTR ROJEK (organ, Poland)

Organist Piotr Rojek studied organ under Professor Andrzej Chorosiński and composition under Professors Zygmunt Herembeszta and Krystian Kiełb at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music, where he now works as a professor. The musician has made over a dozen records, but an exceptional 2005 recording of nine toccatas by various 17th–20th century composers, performed on the historic organ by German organ builder Adam Horatio Casparini in the St. Lawrence’s Church, Wołów, was nominated for the prestigious Fryderyk award of the Polish Phonographic Academy. P. Rojek has been awarded prizes for his performances and compositions in various competitions and has given concerts in the Czech Republic, UK, Finland, Spain, Italy, Israel, USA, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, Hungary and Germany. The organist has been awarded in recognition for his contribution to the city of Wrocław. The musician is known as a master organist, talented composer and improviser both in Poland and abroad. At this year’s Resurrexit Festival, the audience will have the opportunity to hear this musician play the organ of the Šiauliai Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

He will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata as well as the Polish composer Mieczyslaw Surzynski’s most famous piece – Improvisations on the Polish Church Hymn “Holy God” Theme – and the organist’s own improvisations.
