ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The title of the exhibition “RRR” can be deciphered as Revision, Reconstruction, Representation. At times, there comes a desire to revisit one’s earlier paintings, to carry out a kind of revision, after which dissatisfaction arises with what was created two or three years ago. This leads to taking up the brush again and repainting directly over old canvases. These repainted works make up the larger part of the exhibition. I do not know whether I will repaint them once more in a few years, but at this moment, this is the creative result that fully satisfies me as an artist.

I define this stage of my practice as “concreteness within abstraction.” In the painted works, I have remained orderly and disciplined. Geometric forms that are easily recognizable to everyone have “arranged themselves” on the canvases into specific color compositions, in which abstract forms create associative imagery. In these works—at least as it seems to me—a meeting point between the concrete and the abstract takes place. Abstract forms assemble into associative images that await recognition.
