THE EXHIBITION „SKIN AND DUST“ BY DAINIUS TRUMPIS

Exhibitions

August 7–30, 2025, Šiauliai Art Gallery presents the exhibition Skin and Dust by Dainius Trumpis.

The opening will take place on Thursday, August 7, at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the opening is free of charge.

Dainius Trumpis is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice blends sculpture, painting, installation, and the aesthetics of the ready-made. His work is rooted in explorations of visual memory and in the analysis of liminal – transitional, in-between – states. Through the form and physical qualities of materials, the artist searches for psychological resonance and deeper cultural meanings.

In Skin and Dust, Dainius Trumpis moves away from decorativeness, focusing instead on the purity of matter, its transformation, and impermanence. Expression, experimentation, and even the brutal processing of material become part of the process through which a dialogue between the artist and the material emerges. This interaction opens the possibility for mutual transformation, with the motif of corporeality becoming embedded in the works.

Sculptural forms reminiscent of exercise equipment or industrial objects speak of the body’s potential, physical growth, and its limitations. Meanwhile, welding seams, rust, or other surface marks become traces of time – unhidden scars that testify to the work’s own experience. These marks embody the tension of opposites: growth and decay, care and violence, faith and loss.

Trumpis’s work is distinguished by a sensitive balance between construction and destruction. This exhibition invites the viewer to reflect on cyclicality as a universal law of existence, revealed both in matter and in our own experiences.
