“RÉSUMÉ'2” AS A FUSION OF ARCHIVE AND PROCESS

Launched last year, the Šiauliai art photography exhibition Résumé is already shaping its own history. The first edition presented the full spectrum of active art photography in Šiauliai. This year, we continue to summarize the city’s artistic photography phenomena and showcase the most relevant developments from recent years. Thus, the exhibition follows several directions: it continues to reveal archival layers of local photographic art, highlights the newest trends, emphasizes the most creative artists, and explores new ways to promote city-based photography.

Significantly, each exhibition uncovers new possibilities, as the concept of art photography is broad and inclusive. This makes the exhibition a living process, a kind of creative laboratory where known artists reappear in new ways, new photographic possibilities are unveiled, and exciting premieres emerge.

This time, the archival section initiated last year is expanded with early nude cycles by Juozas Bindokas and Vilmantas Dambrauskas, dramatic reportage by Aleksandras Ostašenkovas, self-portraits by Edita Sūdžiūtė, graphic photography by Bronius Rudys, a cinematic series by Rolandas Andrijauskas, and existential reflections by Klemas Jankūnas.

The past year also brought forward many creatively productive artists. Irmantas Kovaliovas, Daiva Šeibelienė, Edita Aleksandravičienė, Andrius Lamauskas, Giedrius Šiukščius, Mindaugas Lukošaitis, and Ramunė Bernotaitė impress with their creative alertness and continual exploration of visual possibilities.

Surprises are in store. This year, Mindaugas Lukošaitis is preparing a monumental installation merging drawing and photographic imagery. Bronius Rudys will remind us of the hidden artistic potential of photography. Andrius Lamauskas will present new standards in contemporary nude photography. Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė will invite us to meditate on transcendent visual horizons.

The exhibition also features numerous premieres. Greta Ciūnytė, Aistė Dadūra, Laurynas Nevidonskis, and Saulius Prapiestis will enrich the show with their visions. Talented young people—students from Šiauliai Art School and high schoolers recommended by their mentors—will also participate, adding youthful experimentation to the works of recognized artists.

This year, the exhibition includes Valentyn Odnoviun, a renowned photographer who recently joined the Šiauliai Photography Museum (a division of the Šiauliai “Aušra” Museum) and now officially takes part as a Šiauliai-based artist.

"Résumé'2" clearly demonstrates the potential of art photography in Šiauliai by combining archival works, contemporary processes, and new premieres—and warmly invites everyone to the festive opening.

This year is important for photography in Šiauliai not only because of Résumé'2.
It turns out that May 16 is shaping up to be the city's photography day. That same day:

At 4:00 PM, Laiptų Galerija will host the launch of Aleksandras Ostašenkovas’ new book “The Road to Memory.”

At 5:00 PM, the Šiauliai Photography Museum will open a solo exhibition by Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė titled “Slippery Stones.”

Isn’t this a sign that the city may be ready for its own photography festival?
