From April 17 to May 10, Rūta Černiauskienė’s drawing exhibition "Freehand Sketches" is on display at the Šiauliai Art Gallery.
The exhibition opening event will take place on Thursday, April 17, at 5:30 PM at the Šiauliai Art Gallery. Admission to the exhibition is free during the opening.
Rūta Černiauskienė gained renown for her photography exhibitions, in which architectural details form endless rhythmic improvisations—buildings transform into musical, architectural kaleidoscopes. Rūta is less known as a draftswoman, as a creator of diary-like drawing cycles, as an enthusiastic and perceptive explorer of the world’s lines, which she captures and composes in her drawings. Drawing on various genres and histories of illustration, referencing the styles of renowned architects, and infused with humor and curiosity, she creates an ongoing graphic narrative of her life and the evolution of architecture.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was born in 1950, in Raseiniai. In 1972, I graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at VISI (Vilnius Institute of Civil Engineering). After graduation, I began working at the Lithuanian Institute for Scientific Research of Construction and Architecture (LSAMTI) in Kaunas. In 1976, I moved to Šiauliai, where my husband, also an architect, was already working. In 1977, I became a member of the Lithuanian Architects’ Union. In 1995, I was granted the status of an art creator. After retiring, I became involved in community activities. From 2010 to 2022, I was a member of the council at the University of the Third Age in Šiauliai and served as Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Arts. I wanted people to learn more about architecture, about their city and surroundings. I’m an architect who enjoys "meeting with architecture," exploring and photographing the sounds and shadows of the city, and sharing my creative work with others.
