“THE BUCKET LIST” OF ŠIAULIAI

If you visit the Sun city Šiauliai at least once in your life, you will definitely have to:

  1. Experience the magic of 1700 roses blooming in the Chaimas Frenkelis’ Villa-Museum park.
  2. Admire the city’s stunning panorama from the 60-meter-high tower of St. Apostles Peter and Paul’s Cathedral.
  3. Take a photo at one of the city’s symbols, the largest animal sculpture in Lithuania – the Iron Fox.
  4. Check whether the country’s highest sundial, located in Sundial Square, shows the exact time.
  5. Walk along the third oldest boulevard in Europe.
  6. Try on the “Baltic profession” in the Europe’s unique “Balts’ Road” centre.
  7. Find the inhabitants of Šiauliai “street zoo”.
  8. Say hello to the “director” of the Cats Museum, the mischievous cat Perlas, and evaluate the museum’s extensive collection.
  9. Hear the city’s "Cock" Clock, greeting the city’s guests in as many as 14 different languages of the world.
  10. See the largest collection of mountain plants in Lithuania at Šiauliai Botanical Garden.
  11. Enjoy the incredibly beautiful sunset, having settled yourself on the shore of Lake Rėkyva or on the 80-meter-long wooden bridge.
  12. Visit the Cents Room – the record holder, decorated with the most expensive “wallpaper” (as many as 157 130 Lithuanian cent coins).
  13. Step inside a camera in the “camera obscura” installed on the roof terrace of the Photography Museum.
  14. Participate in the Bicycle Museum’s race between a modern and an antique bicycle; i.e., the one made according to almost 500-year-old drawings.
  15. Taste a melting chocolate bubble at "Rūta" café, located on the territory of the oldest Lithuanian sweets factory.
  16. Experience the taste and aftertaste of probably the most delicious fermented bread drink in Lithuania, which is produced in "Gubernija" – the oldest brewery in the Baltic States.
  17. Try out the taste of exclusive boiled potato dumplings (cepelinai) with chickpea filling, made in the teahouse of one of the country’s oldest historical pharmacies "Valerijonas".

Tips for those planning to come:

  • On the last Sunday of every month, visits to the divisions of "Aušra" Museum are free.
  • Most of the main attractions are located in the city centre and can be reached on foot.
  • On the last weekend in August, only in Šiauliai, the events of “Šiauliai Nights” take place, while the second weekend in September (Friday-Saturday) is the city’s birthday with its “Šiauliai Days”, which is the biggest event of the year.
  • The largest selection of souvenirs with Šiauliai and Lithuanian symbols is offered at Šiauliai Tourism Information Centre.
  • The tastiest and healthiest gifts from Šiauliai are the produce of the sweets factory "Rūta", the brewery "Gubernija" and the pharmacy "Valerijonas".
  • You can rent bicycles only at Šiauliai Tourism Information Centre.
