From time immemorial, monasteries have been famous for flower gardens and gardens, vineyards and orchards. Herbal traditions, methods of body and soul self-treatment were nurtured here. In the herb gardens of the monasteries, acclimatized plants were brought from distant guest countries, which later became commonplace in rural orchards as well.

The monastery chronicle states that in 1614. Simonas Očko, a monk from Krakow, described as a diligent gardener, came to the newly established monastery in Tytuvėnai together with his first brothers. The sending of the works of a man-skilled gardener to the nascent monastery shows that the cultivation, adaptation and use of fruit trees, fruit bushes, herbs or even flowers was important and valued.
